GRAND RAPIDS From orchestra to choir to band, music education is in the spotlight in Grand Rapids this weekend. It's all for the 8th Annual Michigan Music Conference.
The event kicked off Friday and runs through Saturday at Devos Performance Hall and the Amway Grand Plaza.
It brings together teachers, choir leaders and band directors to collaborate and learn the latest techniques in music training.
Exceptional music students K through 12 were selected to perform in the Honors Concerts Series.
The shows feature some of the most talented young musicians in band, jazz, choir, orchestra and conducting from around the state.
Soorya Ramappan, Music Student, said, "I think it's really fun to be with friends and improve on your musical sound as a group and as yourself."
Virginia Kerwin, Michigan Music Conference adds, "The quality of Michigan Music Education is highly respected all over the United States. Michigan in many ways sets the benchmark for comprehensive music education."
There are many concerts open to the public Friday at the Michigan Music Conference.
