(WZZM)- It might be cold out there, but there are plenty of fun activities going on this weekend that the whole family can enjoy.
The family can surely enjoy the 3rd Annual WinterWest in Grand Rapids' Richmond Park. It's a two-week festival celebrating all that a Michigan winter has to offer.
Each day, there will be organized events like sledding and hockey. This weekend, experience the opening ceremony on Saturday starting at 10:30 a.m.
Get the kids and head down to the Grand Rapids Public Museum for the Ethnic Festival.
Experience foods, exhibits, performances, and presentations all by different ethnic groups from around the area. And for the beer lover in the family, there will be a special beer tasting for just $6 extra.
It's all happening Saturday from 9 a.m. til close.
The Grand Rapids Hunting Expo is in full swing this weekend.
Not for the weak-hearted, this expo is geared for the "hard-core" hunters out there. Pick up new techniques and perhaps some new equipment at the gun auction on Sunday (10 a.m.). Auction organizers say they will work hard to make sure the guns do not fall into the wrong hands. Dealers in the show are licensed dealers.
This is going on all weekend. Friday hours are noon - 9 p.m. Saturday hours run 9 a.m. - 7 p.m. Sunday, doors open at 9 a.m. and close at 3 p.m.
And for all of you bowhunters out there, no better place to hone your skills than the 18th Annual Traditional Bowhunters Expo in Kalamazoo.
Skilled craftsmen, knowledgeable bow-hunting instructors, and top-class dealers will be providing insight into the sport all weekend. Join in on workshops and even try out the equipment in a supervised shooting area.
The show runs Friday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and again on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Admission is $10. Kids under 12 get in free.
WZZM's favorite horticulturist is jumping back into the game, bringing two birds of prey shows to area Flowerlands this weekend.
Saturday, join Rick Vuyst as he gives a show-and-tell of different birds of prey like owls, hawks, and turkey vultures.
Kids and grown-ups are invited. Organizers suggest you bring your cameras!
The shows are going on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at the Alpine Flowerland (located at 3801 Alpine Ave), and then again at the Kentwood Flowerland (4312 28th Street SE) at 3:30 p.m.
Saturday just happens to be Michigan's 167th birthday! Celebrate by enjoying a cold one at the newly opened Mitten Brewing Company.
The new beer hotspot teamed up with Michigan company the Awesome Mitten in a birthday competition, asking bakeries across the state to submit photos of Michigan-inspired desserts. The playing field has been narrowed down to ten, and on Saturday the winner will be announced.
The Mitten Brewing Company is one of many locations across the state where you can celebrate the announcement of the winner.
The party is free, and starts at one p.m. at Mitten Brewing Company, located at 527 Leonard Street NW.
