U.S. 31 was closed after heavy snow fell January 25, 2013.
MUSKEGON, Mich. (WZZM) - The Muskegon County Road Commission is working hard to keep roads clear after several hours of heavy snow Friday afternoon.
At least six inches of snow fell in a quick burst that began around noon.
At one point Friday afternoon, police had to close U.S. 31 in both directions because of multiple accidents. As of 5:15 p.m. the southbound side was closed at Sherman because of a series of accidents.
The Muskegon County Road Commission is responding to the weather conditions by holding its day-shift plow drivers longer and calling in its night-shift workers early.
Authorities also tell WZZM 13 at 2 a.m. there will also be an "all call," meaning all road commission workers will respond to clear the roads before the Saturday morning traffic picks up.
