MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. (WZZM) An investigation into how money and property was handled in the evidence room at the Muskegon Heights Police Department is over.
Prosecutors say no one will be charged. The investigation started in 2010 following claims of missing money. Friday morning the prosecutor's office released a memo sent to the Michigan State Police. It states there is insufficient evidence to pursue criminal charges. It says investigators could not prove money was missing because it was never recorded properly.
The memo also criticizes the department saying, "dumpster loads of evidence was strewn about and in no particular order, and access to the room was not controlled."
