According to Grand Rapids' city ordinance, property owners are required to clear adjacent sidewalks within 24 hours of snowfall.
GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - Clear your section of the sidewalk, or be prepared to pay.
That's Tuesday's message from Grand Rapids city officials. They're encouraging homeowners to clear snow and ice from the sidewalk adjacent to their property, as required by the city ordinance. People who do not clear the walkways within 24 hours could receive a written notice. If the snow remains 48 hours after the notice, the city may clear the sidewalk and charge the homeowner.
People who encounter a sidewalk that has not been cleared within 24 hours are asked to file a complaint on the city's website or call (616) 456-3243.
