GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - The days of Saturday mail are numbered.
The U.S. Postal Service announced this week that it will quit delivering mail on Saturdays starting in August. The Postmaster General says the agency's financial condition is urgent, and the cuts will save about $2 billion a year.
West Michigan residents who rely on mail had mixed reactions to the announcement.
The Postal Service says packages will continue to be delivered on Saturdays, even after the cuts take effect.
Congress could ban five day mail delivery when it approves a permanent spending measure late next month.
