UPDATE 10:30 P.M.
BIG RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM) - Police in Missouri have located a vehicle belonging to a missing Big Rapids man.
Around 6 p.m. Thursday, the Big Rapids Public Safety Department was notified that a 2005 Chevy Malibu belonging to Fred Byrne was located just outside of the Mark Twain National Forest in Van Buren, Missouri.
The vehicle was found unlocked with Byrne's wallet on the rear floor board and the keys in the center console. According to Carter County Sheriff Deputies, nothing appeared to be out of the ordinary or suspicious inside the vehicle.
Officers in Missouri searched the area around the vehicle but had to call off the search because of a lack of daylight. Byrne was not located.
Carter County Deputies and US Forest Service Investigators will be conducting a more thorough search Friday morning.
BIG RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM) - The Big Rapids Department of the Public Safety is asking for help in finding a man missing from the Holland area since Tuesday.
Fred Byrne, 49, is from Big Rapids, but was last seen leaving his mother's home in Holland Township on Tuesday afternoon. Byrne had gone to Holland to take his son back to Hope College in Holland and had stopped to visit his mother. He last mentioned that he was going to stop at RiverTown Crossings Mall in Grandville to pick up a Valentine's gift for his wife on the way back to Big Rapids.
Byrne is described as being white, 6'3" tall, 290lbs., with blond hair and blue eyes. He owns and was driving a silver, 2005 Chevy Malibu, with the license number of BSY 0298. One side of the back window has a "BR" sticker and the other side has a "Hope College Parent" sticker. The car also has a Hope College license plate cover.
Byrne has not been in contact with any family or friends, which investigators say is extremely out of character.
