GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - Americans will spend nearly $19 billion on Valentine's Day this year; most of that spending from men. The National Retail Federation says men plan to spend an average of $108 on their sweethearts this Valentine's Day, twice what women plan to spend on their significant others. Ladies plan to spend only $53, according to a NRF survey.
At Ball Park Floral Thursday morning, flower stylists were bustling as deliverers prepared vans full of flowers.
"We're doing great, were pacing ourselves so we can make sure our customers get good service, and we're gonna get 'em all out on time and beautiful arrangements," says manager Heidi Poll.
Pam and Dave Bayko were delivering all day in a Ball Park van. "It's all about remembering the people you love," Pam Bayko said.
Card shops, like LaVeen's Hallmark in Allendale, had a steady stream of procrastinating shoppers.
Restaurants across the region were full. Amore Trattoria Italiana was booked for Thursday night two weeks ago said co-owner Jenna Arcidiacono. "It's a huge night for restaurants but it doesn't need to be. If people are smart-- and some people are smart-- they come Tuesday or Wednesday because they knew about how crazy it was gonna be," she said.
