WALKER, Mich. (WZZM) - Many people aren't forgetting their pets this Valentine's Day. One in five Americans is expected to surprise their furry friend with something this holiday, keeping businesses like this Pet Supplies Plus busy.

According to the National Retail Federation, $815 million will go toward Valentine's Day gifts for pets.

Deb Lincoln, a pet owner says she is part of that statistic. "Molly's going to become a runner with me... so she needs some gear to go running."

Nick Petrovich, an employee at Pet Supplies Plus says he's been seeing more feline owners shopping lately. "Dogs are definitely easier than cats. They love to see you, they're co-dependent whereas with cats they're just going to kind of ignore you, so you definitely have to work to get their attention... Cats you've got to go a little bit bigger."

If you adopted a dog this Valentine's Day don't forget to get a license. The Kent County Health Department says dog license fees will double after March 1.
