GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM) - A benefit will be held Friday evening for the families of four local missionaries killed in Haiti. Their deaths in a car accident last January were so unexpected, it's been tough to cover some of the expenses to get them back home and take care of their families.

Matt Kutsche, Mary LaPonsie, and Jim and Rita Cwengros meant so much to so many in West Michigan that those people have been asking the Holy Spirit Parish over and over, what can we do to help continue the healing process.

That's why J's Journey stepped in to organize the "Healing Hears One Mission at a Time" benefit tonight. People and businesses are donating time, money, and prizes to auction; all they say so people will continue helping each other through the grieving process and, more importantly, inspire new people to continue their mission.

"The Haiti mission needs to continue," said event volunteer Mary Szotko. "No one's stopping. There are other tours going. It's still alive and vibrant."

Some of the items up for auction include restaurant and hotel certificates, art, furniture, and memberships to places like the zoo.

Even if you didn't know any of the victims, you're still invited out to the Saint Peter and Paul Activity Center at 5 p.m. Organizers say it will be a good time to meet new people and learn more about the cause which the four missionaries died working toward.

Here's a link to the Facebook page invite.
