Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park is home to the country's largest tropical butterfly exhibit.

GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - A welcome sign of spring is here: The first shipment of butterflies has arrived at Federik Meijer Gardens.

The dozens of chrysalises will hatch in a couple of weeks, just in time for the 18th annual Butterflies Are Blooming exhibit at the gardens. The butterflies come from Asia and Africa as well as Central and South America.

"This is popular because I think right now about now, a lot of people are getting tired of winter and the cold, and in this room, it's warm, humid and there's butterflies. It's just a very unique experience," says Lucinda Grover of the Frederik Meijer Gardens.

The Butterflies Are Blooming exhibit draws about 150,000 guests each year and runs from March 1-April 30.
