MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (AP) -- Public schools officials in Mount Pleasant are tightening security following a string of armed robberies in the mid-Michigan community.

Superintendent of Schools Michael Pung tells for a story Tuesday that building entryways are being monitored for strangers and that schools in the district are under a partial lockdown.

Students also are not going outside for recess or at lunch.
Pung says the measures likely will remain in place until police catch the man believed responsible for the holdups which began Saturday.

A cash-advance shop was robbed about 2 p.m. Monday by a man who threatened an employee with a handgun. A Subway restaurant was robbed late Sunday night. Other area businesses that have been robbed include a grocery store and another cash-advance outlet.
