U.S. Attorney Patrick Miles
GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - The region's top law enforcement officers came together Thursday with a plea to the public: We need your help in fighting crime.
Police chiefs and prosecutors on a state, local, and federal level said they work together to solve crime. What they need is tips from the public to help break cases.
"We are going to do as much as we can... we're here to help," said U.S. Attorney Patrick Miles. Miles noted that whenever possible, local police will seek federal charges, which come with much stiffer penalties. "We're using a task force to educate the public and prevent crime."
Miles acknowledged the task force has been ongoing for some time, but said an apparent spike in violence across the region prompted Thursday's news conference to promote the proactive approach across a variety of police agencies.
