MUSKEGON, Mich. (WZZM) - Muskegon County's Board of Commissioners will consider taking on a $41 million construction project.
The Jail and Juvenile Transition Center Committee is recommending a new jail be built in the county parking lot. That's across the street from the current jail.
To appease the city of Muskegon, the new and old jails would be connected with a tunnel under Pine Street.
"We have looked at a number of different sites and this is the one I feel-- and the rest of the committee feels-- is the best possible option," said Dean Roesler, Muskegon County Sheriff.
The project includes significant renovations at the current jail and a new juvenile facility a few blocks away on Pine Street.
