ALLENDALE, Mich. (WZZM) -- The signs of spring are popping up everywhere, and gardeners are getting anxious to visit greenhouses.

To keep up with demand, Countryside Greenhouse is opening a new facility.

"By the time we open April 1, these tables will be full [with flowers]. By April 15, we'll be spilling off into the aisles," says greenhouse president Dale Buist.

Buist has reason to be excited. His eight acre, state-of-the art greenhouse is twice as large as the original building.

There's actually 35 miles of decking lumber inside," he says. "This facility has 225,000 hanging baskets. Our current location has 150,000."

Buist doesn't know of another greenhouse that can compare. The structure doesn't just sell greens;  it is green, with energy efficient upgrades.  Among the features is a new plant-friendly water system that captures rainwater off the facility's roof and pumps it into a reservoir.  The water is purified and oxygen is added to help the plants live longer.

The new Countryside Greenhouse is located at 9050 Lake Michigan Dr. in Allendale. Buist expects shoppers from across the Midwest, so he has 29 checkout lanes to accommodate everyone.
