(WZZM) -- After years of struggle for both sides, the issue of same-sex marriage goes before the U.S. Supreme Court this week. Tuesday, the justices will hear oral arguments on California's Proposition 8, which outlaws same sex marriage. On Wednesday, they will take up the Defense of Marriage Act or DOMA, which legally defines marriage as between a man and woman
These cases represent a battle over a traditional concept of marriage and the rights of families in same-sex relationships. The justices must decide whether they can or should issue a ruling to broaden the legal definition of marriage.
The gay marriage issue is divisive and often becomes a Biblical debate. Some say the Bible clearly states homosexuality is wrong and against God, while others say it depends on your interpretation.
Pastor Chris Schwab from First Congregational Church in Lowell is in support of gay marriage. In the video posted above, he shares his interpretation of Scripture with WZZM 13's Juliet Dragos and also responds to views from Christians who believe homosexuality is a sin.
