Lalia Mangione

Lalia Mangione, 17, is a home educated senior in High School, born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Mangione, having played violin for the last 9 years, currently studies under Dr. Gregory Maytan, a music professor at Grand Valley State University. However, past teachers include Dora Lindgren and Haijin Choi, a member of the Grand Rapids Symphony. Mangione has been a member of the Grand Rapids Youth Symphony for 4 years. Currently, Mangione sits as Concert Mistress for both the Grand Rapids Youth Symphony and the Calvary Church Orchestra. In 2011, Mangione won the Skip Gates Concerto Competition, which is an event that allows the winner to solo at Devos Hall, and in the summer of 2012, Mangione attended the prestigious Meadowmount School of Music. Later on during 2012, Mangione took first place in the MTNA's State String Competition, as well as taking second place in the Lima Symphony's Young Artist Competition. 2013 included winning 1st place in the MTNA's Divisional String Competition, and being invited as one of seven finalists for MTNA's National String Competition. Also in 2013, Mangione took 1st place in Westmont College's Guild Music Scholarship Competition, and just last week took second place in MFMC's String Competition. Along with competitions, Mangione enjoys teaching her 6 students, performing for children's hospitals and nursing homes, as well as playing for weddings, seminars and other special events.
