For those planning a "staycation" for the upcoming spring break, the American Red Cross is offering Babysitter's Training courses. The class is designed for youth between 11 and 15 years old to learn the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly care for children and infants.

The American Red Cross of Greater Grand Rapids will be offering courses at the chapter building, 1050 Fuller Avenue NE, over spring break from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the following dates: April 1, April 2, and April 3.

The course costs $85, and includes lessons on basic care for children and infants, how to develop a babysitting business, basic health and safety for children, first aid, basic child behavior knowledge and leadership development. Students are encouraged to bring snacks and pack a lunch.

Babysitting is a valuable first job for teens and pre-teens. Knowing how to better care for the young builds confidence to hold, feed, and care for infants and toddlers, work with children safely, and handle emergency situations. Babysitter's training is also a great first step to learning entrepreneurial and career development skills.
