SPRING LAKE, Mich. (AP) -- Hundreds gathered at a West Michigan church to see a cross rise again.

The cross was removed three years ago when Harvest Bible Chapel's then-owner, C3 Exchange, began to focus more on overall spirituality and became less centered on Christianity and its symbols.

The Grand Haven Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/YOsE41) the cross was reinstalled Friday during a public open house at the Spring Lake church.

The 45-foot, 1,000-pound structure had been stored on blocks behind Advanced Signs in Ferrysburg for the past three years.
It originally was erected at the building during Easter weekend 1980 when Harvest Bible was known as Christ Community Church.

C3 removed the cross in June 2010, an action that upset some worshippers.
