LUDINGTON, Mich. (WZZM) -- Ludington Police will hold a news conference Wednesday morning regarding Katherine Phillips, and it likely has to do with forensic evidence found on her father's shoes the day she disappeared.

"Baby Kate" was four months old when she disappeared in June 2011. She is presumed dead after extensive searches for her turned up nothing.

A University of Michigan botanist told WZZM 13 Tuesday afternoon that he and a Michigan State University botanist have been studying plant fragments found on the shoes of Katherine's father, Sean Phillips. The pair plan to take their research to Ludington at the beginning of June to connect the dots between the three types of plants they identified from the shoe samples, and area wetlands.

The method of forensics will likely only give a general location where Sean Phillips was that day, but this, combined with other evidence, could help police narrow the on-going investigation to a big break-through.

Phillips was sentenced to 10 to 15 years in prison last year for an unlawful imprisonment conviction in the case.

An official announcement will be made at a 9 a.m. news conference Wednesday. WZZM 13 will have coverage throughout the day both on air and online.
