Scene of deadly accident, Apple Avenue (M-46) in Moorland Township.
MUSKEGON, Mich. (WZZM) -- The son of a woman killed in a car crash Friday afternoon faces charges in her death.
Alicia Keech of Pierson died Friday when her SUV crossed the center line on Apple Avenue and collided with a semi-truck carrying steel.
The Muskegon County Prosecutor says Keech's son, 20-year-old Lorenzo Martinez, confessed to grabbing the steering wheel and causing the crash. Two other passengers who survived the accident confirm what happened.
Authorities say Martinez has a history of mental illness. Prosecutors have signed an arrest warrant seeking one count of manslaughter, but charges are being delayed until Martinez completes a mental health evaluation in Kalamazoo.
"Usually it is a couple of months. You have to get down there, get evaluated, and get a report back from a doctor," Muskegon County Prosecutor, D.J. Hilson told WZZM 13.
Martinez was recently released from a mental health facility in Muskegon. He also has a pending charge for resisting a police officer in Roosevelt Park.
