GRAND RAPIDS, (WZZM) -Mayor George Heartwell has declared a state of emergency for the city of Grand Rapids. The state of emergency went into effect at 1 p.m. Saturday.
The declaration comes after water levels along the Grand River continue to rise. The mayor is concerned about 3 hotels, the J.W. Marriott, The Amway Grand Plaza, and Plaza Towers. Plaza Towers lost power and was evacuated due to flooding in the basement level.
The Grand River is expected to crest at 22.7 feet Monday morning.
