GREENVILLE, Mich. (WZZM) -- The mother of a hospitalized Montcalm County toddler is now facing child abuse charges.
A judge Wednesday charged Samantha Slater with first and second degree child abuse. Her boyfriend, Benjamin Wilkins is facing similar charges.
Slater's two-year-old daughter, Brooklyn has been in the hospital for a month now after police found her unresponsive in a Greenville home. According to court documents obtained by our partner, the Greenville Daily News, the child had life-threatening abdominal injuries, bleeding on the brain, and lacerations to her liver.
This isn't the first child abuse complaint involving Brooklyn. In May 2012, the child was removed from her home after state workers found bruises, cuts and scrapes on her body.
No one was ever charged in the case and Slater and her ex-husband regained custody of the toddler a month later.
