(Grand Rapids, MI) - WZZM 13, the Gannett owned ABC affiliate in Grand Rapids, has won three (3) Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards.
Director of Photography, Andy Sugden, was honored with two awards. The first award is for "Video Feature Reporting", with Multi-Media Journalist Brent Ashcroft, for a story about a 5th grade broadcast journalism program in Caledonia.
Andy and Senior Correspondent Peter Ross win in the "Use of Video" category for a story about corporate team working on the dodge ball court.
Photojournalist Ken Ritz wins his first Regional Murrow Award with a heartwarming human spirit story about the head high school basket ball coach in Wayland, Michigan, who coaches from a wheel chair because he's paralyzed from the waist down. This latest award means WZZM 13 has won the regional "Video Sports Reporting" award for three years in a row.
"We are thrilled that our talented journalists are being recognized by their peers for their storytelling," said Janet Mason, President & General Manager. "These stories show the passion that Brent Ashcroft, Ken Ritz, Peter Ross, and Andy Sugden have for their storytelling."
These three award winning stories will compete for national Murrow honors against the other regional winners from around the nation.
