LAMONT, Mich. (WZZM) - The Perfect Pancake Maker claims it's the fast, easy way to make perfect pancakes every time without the added fat and no need for a spatula.
The pan has four wells to cook four pancakes at a time. The lid closes so you flip the pan, not the pancakes. The nonstick surface allows you to cook without using butter or cooking spray.
I took it to Luyk Maple Sugar House in Lamont. They sell their syrup at Countryside Greenhouse in Allendale. Maple syrup is their passion and they certainly know a thing or two about making pancakes.
Bill Luyk showed me how they make fluffy pancakes on an electric griddle and helped me test out the Perfect Pancake Maker.
We found we had some trouble with uneven cooking. It was trial and error on how long to leave the pancakes cooking, and often two of the pancakes would get overcooked, or the one side wasn't cooked long enough. Without a spatula, it's hard to keep peeking to adjust, but with some trial and error, you could probably find the temperature and timing that would work the best.
Also, we used a batter for fluffy pancakes and we found the Perfect Pancake maker doesn't allow your pancakes to rise, which made them a little chewy.
The pancakes did easily slide out of the pan, so there was no sticking. Bill said if he was cooking for himself, the Perfect Pancake maker would be convenient. He'd stick to his griddle when cooking for a bigger group.
We found the Perfect Pancake Maker online for $19.95 plus shipping and handling.
