Almost 700 seniors graduate from Hope College

HOLLAND, Mich. (WZZM)- Approximately 670 seniors will graduate from Hope College Sunday afternoon.

The Baccalaureate will be held at 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. in Dimnent Memorial Chapel, located on College Avenue at 12th Street. The Baccalaureate sermon will be delivered by the Rev. Jill Ver Steeg, who is a pastor at Meredith Drive Reformed Church in Des Moines, Iowa, and a member of the college's Board of Trustees. Admission is by ticket only.

The Commencement happens at 3 p.m. at the Ray and Sue Smith Stadium, located on Fairbanks Avenue between 13th and 16th streets. The speaker will be Dr. Stacy Jackson, who is the Kenneth J. Weller '48 Professor of Management and chairperson of the department of economics, management and accounting at Hope.

The Commencement ceremony will also include the conferral of honorary degrees (Doctor of Humane Letters, L.H.D.) on Richard Haworth and the late Gerrard W. Haworth in recognition of their leadership of Haworth Corporation and commitment to the community and education, including significant impact on Hope across decades. Matthew Haworth, who is chairman of Haworth Inc. and also Richard's son and G.W.'s grandson, will accept G.W.'s award.

In addition, the event will feature the announcement of the recipient of the 2013 Hope Outstanding Professor Educator (H.O.P.E.) Award, presented by the graduating class.

In the event of inclement weather, Commencement will be held at the Richard and Helen DeVos Fieldhouse, located on Fairbanks Avenue between Ninth and 11th streets. Tickets will be required only if the ceremony is held indoors.
