(WZZM) - May 8 is World Red Cross Day. The day celebrates the birthday of Henry Dunant, the Swiss businessman who founded the organizations that are now known as the International Red Cross and Red Crescent.
To honor the day, the Red Cross is encouraging people to donate blood, volunteer, or contribute to the American Red Cross.
In West Michigan, a Red Cross blood drive will be held Wednesday at the United Church of Wayland at 411 Superior Street in Dorr. The drive goes from noon until 5:45 pm.
For a complete list of upcoming blood drives you can call 1-800-RED-CROSS or go to redcrossblood.org.
