GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan (WZZM) - Summer offers a lot of down time for kids, but educators encourage parents to keep children reading during these down months to help them retain academic skills.
Many West Michigan libraries and book stores have summer reading programs to encourage children to keep reading.
The Grand Rapids Public Library is offering some incentives and prizes for children and teens who read between 300 and 600 minutes this summer.
