KENTWOOD, Mich. (WZZM) -- Police are investigating the drowning of a 1-year-old boy in a park pond.
Kentwood Police say Shamon Gant-Hayes was playing in the Old Farm Park Thursday afternoon with his older brothers. At some point the siblings, ages 7 and 9 lost track of Shamon.
During a search, a Kentwood parks employee found the toddler's scooter and pacifier along the pond's edge. The employee pulled Shamon out of the water and CPR was performed at the site.
Authorities estimate the boy was in the water for as long as 30 minutes. He was rushed by ambulance to Helen DeVos Children's Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
