People can enjoy free Wi-Fi at Rosa Parks Circle.

GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - Before logging onto their "free" Wi-Fi connection, businesses often want customers to buy a beverage, eat a meal, or rent a room.

The free Wi-Fi isn't really free.

But there is a place in Grand Rapids where there really is free Wi-Fi -- 24-7, no questions asked, no strings attached.

It's at Rosa Parks Circle downtown.

"Anybody with any Wi-Fi enabled device can use the network to get to the internet 24 hours a day," confirms Jeff Potter, director of business development for Iserv Company

And this is high-end, high-speed Wi-Fi.

"It's definitely pretty fast," marvels Courtney Williams from her shady seat under a tree at Rosa Parks Circle. Williams is using the free Wi-Fi to view a music video on her iPhone.

"There's no skipping, no buffering, no nothing," she says. "It's a better connection than what I have at home."

Iserve is the Grand Rapids company that provided free Wi-Fi at several downtown locations for Art Prize voting last fall, including Rosa Parks Circle.  After the competition they decided to make the Rosa Parks internet connection permanent.

"It's part of our organization's ability to give back to the community," explains Potter

"This is awesome," says Brionn Anderson. She and two little girls were enjoying ice cream and the free Wi-Fi Thursday at a table in Rosa Parks Circle.

"It's so convenient," she says. "I don't have to walk somewhere and try to get on someone's hot spot. I can enjoy it outside."

Iserv says they plan to offer the free internet connection indefinitely.

"There is no end in sight," says Potter.

Iserv is actually looking for more places where people gather in Grand Rapids to install free Wi-Fi.

And Potter says they will again be providing free internet connections during the ArtPrize competition this fall.
