LUDINGTON, Mich. (WZZM) -- Volunteers are preparing to begin their search for a missing baby in Mason County. Katherine Phillips, also known as 'Baby Kate' disappeared nearly two years ago in Ludington.
Crews will head out into the woods Friday and Saturday looking for botanical matter consistent with what investigators found on her father's shoes. The plant matter is fairly rare and authorities hope it will help lead to the girl's remains.
It's believed Sean Phillips took the girl after getting into a fight with her mother. He disappeared for several hours and Kate was never found.
In April investigators asked for volunteers to help in this week's search.
Timeline of events
On June 29, 2011 Baby Kate vanished. Her father, Sean Phillips was arrested that same day, but Kate was nowhere to be found.
Phillips was eventually charged with unlawful imprisonment of a child and bound over for trial on August 3, 2011.
Following a delay in early January 2012, Sean Phillips' trial began on April 16, 2012 and included several days of dramatic testimony.
Nearly two weeks later on Aril 27 he was found guilty and sent to prison for 10 to 20 years.
