WHITEHALL, Mich.-- A Sparta man is in the hospital after being hit by a car in Whitehall.

The incident happened around 10:15 p.m. Thursday on Thompson Street just north of the bridge between Whitehall and Montague. Police Chief Squiers says 24-year-old Corey Anderson was trying to cross the road when he was hit by a truck driven by a 31-year-old man from Montague.

Squiers says Anderson did not use a crosswalk and it appears he had been drinking. Police say Anderson was also wearing dark clothing and it was raining at the time of the crash.

Anderson was taken to Hackley Hospital in Muskegon where his condition is stable.

The driver is not being ticketed.
