GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - Research suggests that laughter can help ward off disease, and local comedian, Hen Sapp, is using his comedy in a new way to help his community stay healthy.
Christian comedian, Hen Sapp, lives to make people laugh.
Hen Sapp, Comedian: "My mindset with comedy is in life, with everything, you have to find something funny."
That was a tall order recently, when his wife of 18 years, had not one, but two strokes. Needless to say, at just 43-years-old, Christine's condition took the family by surprise.
Christine is among the 67 million Americans living with high blood pressure. That's 1 in every 3 adults. Medical experts believe more than 20 percent of them are unaware of their condition. Of those that know, less than half have their condition under control.
The Sapp's ordeal inspired Hen to organize a health fair held in conjunction with his next performance. He says he wants to educate people about risk factors for hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol and other disorders.
The Rebirth of Comedy Tour and health fair is Saturday, June 29th at Living Word Christian Center. The Health Fair is free and begins at 4:00pm and lasts until 6:00pm.
The comedy show begins at 7:00pm. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 the day of the show.
