(Grand Rapids, MI)- WZZM 13, the Gannett owned ABC affiliate in Grand Rapids, MI took home ten (10) Michigan EMMY Awards in Detroit on Saturday, June 15th 2013. More than any other station in the state!
Director of Photography Andy Sugden is on the receiving end of five (5) Emmy's for a variety of news, feature and editing honors. Longtime WZZM 13 Reporter/Anchor Brent Ashcroft got four (4) nods for his work on three reports alongside Sugden including an Education/Schools category story called "This is CNN" about a fifth grade broadcast journalism class in Caledonia, Mich.
Ashcroft also placed for a Serious Feature story titled "Art as a Tool of Justice".
Health Reporter Valerie Lego scored two EMMY'S for Best Medical Reporter and Best Program/Special for a story titled "Tainted Michigan", produced by Josh Aldredge.
Veteran Newsman Peter Ross also won an EMMY for a story titled, "To Succeed, Dodge". This fun and fast paced story is about after hours corporate networking on the dodgeball court.
Sarah Sell received an EMMY for a Business/Consumer story titled "Michigan Spirits".

WZZM 13 also wins four (4) Associated Press Awards
WZZM 13 did very well earlier this month with four (4) first place wins at the annual Michigan Associated Press Awards Ceremony in Lansing, Saturday, June 1st.
Our Chief Meteorologist George Lessens won "Best Weathercast" and Veteran Senior Reporter Peter Ross wins "Best Natural Sound" for a piece he wrote with Director of Photography Andy Sugden titled "Dodge Ball".
Sugden is also a winner in the "Best Feature" category for a story written by long time WZZM 13 Reporter, Brent Ashcroft titled "This is CNN" about a fifth grade broadcast journalism class in Caledonia, Mich.
Both "Dodge Ball" and "This is CNN" won regional Edward R. Murrow's this year as well.
WZZM'S Sarah Barwacz won two second place spots, first for Enterprize/Investigative Reporting and again for a "Voting Fraud" story in the Individual Reporting category.
WZZM 13's Sports Director Tom Clyde also won a second place Associated Press honor for best Sportscast.
