GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- Thousands of people turned out at Ah-Nab-Awen Park and surrounding areas to watch the Fourth of July Celebration's fireworks display.
The event, sponsored by Amway, also featured food, live music, and a naturalization service for new citizens.
The fireworks display began around 10 p.m. Thursday, and lasted for about 20 minutes.
The event began with a naturalization ceremony for about 80 people, who took the oath of citizenship in front of the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum.
One of the people who took the oath, Yessenia Terpstra, says she felt a number of emotions as she became a citizen of the United States.
"I was excited and nervous, but also very happy," she said. "I've been waiting for this for so long."
Terpstra came to the U.S. in 2005. She said the first thing she planned to do as a citizen was celebrate the birthday of her new home country.
