GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.- The undead are taking over a northeast Grand Rapids neighborhood this weekend.
Crews are shooting scenes for the new independent film, "Beyond the Dark." The horror film is being directed by 2001 Northview High School graduates Matthew Grzeskak and Ross Scharphorn, who have returned from Los Angeles. The childhood friends previously filmed 21 films together.
More than 200 actors from across the country are involved in the fast-moving zombie film, including some from West Michigan.
"[It's my] first time being a zombie. I've done other acting stuff. This was my first zombie and I was excited to do it," says actor Spencer Tomlin.
Crews filmed scenes on Conrad Street NE between Coit Avenue and Riverside Drive Saturday. They'll continue their shoot Sunday afternoon at Wabash Court NE south of Coit Avenue and east of Jupiter Avenue. Other scenes will be shot in Wyoming, Rockford, Cedar Springs and Sand Lake.
"Beyond the Dark" will make its big screen debut at Celebration Cinema North in mid-October, with additional daily showings through Halloween at Celebration Cinema Woodland in Kentwood.
