LILLEY TWP., Mich. (WZZM) -- Two people have been arrested in Newaygo County for animal cruelty and running an unauthorized health facility after dozens of animals were taken from their property.

Newaygo County Animal Control searched the property in the 11000 block of N. Bingham Avenue on Friday.  During the search, officers learned that the occupants may have been practicing veterinary services without a license.

Officers found 10-14 kittens and a fawn deceased in a freezer.  Another cat was found dead in the yard.  Overall, 50-60 cats, a dog, two rabbits, and one baby skunk were found in poor conditions with inadequate food and water.  All the animals were taken to the Newaygo County Animal Shelter for evaluation.

One person is currently in custody at the Newaygo County Jail facing multiple charges of animal abandonment and cruelty.  A second suspect has been released on bail.  Both will be formally charged on Thursday.

WZZM 13 will have more details when they become available.
