CROTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) -- Dive teams have found the body of a missing man in the Muskegon River.
Christopher O'Connor, 31, of Rockford had been tubing on the river Saturday when family members noticed he was gone. During the tubing expedition, there was a fight of some kind--with who and why is unclear-- but O'Connor became missing. The trip began at the Croton Dam and was to end at the Thornapple access point.
Divers discovered his body around 3 p.m. Monday, just minutes after a search team of about 50 volunteers headed into nearby woods.
Sunday, Michigan State Police used their helicopter and the Michigan DNR assisted in searching a seven mile stretch of the river. The Newaygo County Dive Team searched a one mile stretch of the river as well.
An uncle says O'Connor was married and the father of two children. He worked at Hutchinson Automotive in Grand Rapids. Many of his co-workers assisted in the search.
A family member says a fund has been established to help the family at Trust One Bank.
