Water main break shuts down portion of Kalamazoo Ave.
Kalamazoo Ave. between Adams St. & Evergreen St. closed due to water main break
UPDATE: As of Saturday evening power has been restored to all residents impacted by the water main break.
GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM)- The Grand Rapids Police Department is responding to a water main break in a Grand Rapids neighborhood.
City service workers are spending Saturday morning working on fixing the two-foot wide transmission main on Blaine Ave. It is causing water to flood Kalamazoo Avenue between Adams Street and Evergreen Street SE.
Neighbors tell us they first noticed something wrong around 8 this morning, when the electricity went out. "I've never seen anything in the middle of the street like this before," said Arthur Frost, who lives on Kalamazoo Ave. "We've had it flood with a lot of rain before, but nothing like this."
The city tells us, water has been cut off to at least one house, with electricity cut to many more. The main could be restored as soon as Saturday night. The power should be restored as soon as the flooding is under control.
"I hope they get it repaired soon so people can get back to their business," continued Frost.
