GRATTAN TWP., Mich. (WZZM) - One man was hurt after he fell asleep while driving home from work. The crash happened around noon Friday on Beardslee Rd. near Tully Ave. NE.
Don Reitsma, 28, was driving his Mazda Protégé west on Beardslee when he veered into a ditch. The front of the car was on fire and the car was filled with smoke when emergency crews arrived on the scene.
Authorities say Reitsma was leaning over, apparently asleep and woke up as firefighters extinguished the flames. He was pulled from the vehicle and treated for third degree burns on his legs and arm.
Reitsma told authorities he driving home after a 10 hour shift at work.
