GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - Beginning Monday, In The Image, a Grand Rapids non-profit that provides gently used clothing, household items, furniture and appliances to families in need, will be giving away more than 13,000 pairs of new shoes to area school students.

The S.H.O.E.S. event takes place the two weeks prior to school starting, August 19th - August 30th. In The Image will target a record 37 local schools in Grand Rapids, Kentwood, and Wyoming. This year, In The Image will be helping ALL GRPS Elementary Schools as well as expanding to the two Godfrey-Lee Elementary Schools. This means that over 13,000 children will qualify to receive brand new, athletic shoes for the 2013-2014 school year! In 2012, over 9,000 students benefited from a new pair of back-to-school shoes from S.H.O.E.S.

In The Image executive director, Jay Starkey, says the program has helped change the lives of thousands of local children and help them start the school year off right. He adds that it would not be possible without the help of a generous community.

Each student in the elementary schools listed below will be eligible to receive a new pair of shoes for the 2013-2014 school year.

Please be aware that schools have assigned days and students that register late or can't attend their assigned day will be able to make up their day on August 29th and 30th.
