GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (WZZM) -- Some of the most famous American inventors are Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell and Benjamin Franklin. But soon, the name Randy Rymal may be added to that list.
The Grand Haven inventor's vintage car restoration products are purchased worldwide -- including by high-profile Hollywood stars.
Rymal restores old cars from vintage antennas to customer veneer paneling. He's owned the niche worldwide for three decades. He doesn't advertise because he says he's the only person who specializes in the work.
His clientele includes orders from all 50 states, and internationally, especially in Sweden, Finland and Norway. But his biggest customers are Hollywood stars.
Randy's currently working on a restoration project for singer Richard Carpenter from the 70s group, The Carpenters.
"He's big into Dodge and DeSotos, in fact he'll fly me out there if I need to, take a master pattern off of one of his cars," says Rymal.
Comedian Tim Allen calls Randy all the time for old car projects. They've even met in West Michigan at the Bear Lake Tavern.
But his single biggest Hollywood client is Jay Leno.
"I think he's doing a bullet-nosed Studabaker next," says Rymal, "He needs my help because nobody else can do it."
Randy has never had employees. "I have never been able to teach anybody how this is done." But his car restoration inventions remain in high demand.
