Market Hall, Grand Rapids. (September 2, 2013)
GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- After months of preparation, the Downtown Market's indoor Market Hall is now open to the public.
Crowds were large all day as thousands of people filled the hall. Vendor Tina Larson said the turnout was way beyond what she expected. "Look at the crowds everyone's excited this is a great, great place" she said.
For the past few weeks, 19 vendors have been moving into their spaces in the $30 million facility, located at 435 Ionia Ave. SW.
An official ribbon cutting for the Market Hall was held last week with a "soft opening." At 9 a.m. Monday, the indoor portion of the Downtown Market officially opened to a crowd of people.
Market Hall is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
The outdoor portion of the Downtown Market is open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays and Saturdays, and 4-7 p.m. Thursdays.
