GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- Labor Fest kicked off its fifth year Monday, bringing together family fun, food, drinks, live music and exhibits highlighting the history and meaning behind the end-of-summer holiday.

"Labor Day is to celebrate the worker," said Labor Fest Co-Chair Tracie Roerig. "That's why we put this on; to get everybody to come down and celebrate." To thank local workers, admission to the Ford Presidential Museum was free for the day.

"You see the smiles on people's faces, and they just come down and have a good day; that's what makes it for me," continued Roerig.

The festival kicked off at 11 a.m. in Ah-Nab-Awen Park and ran until 5 p.m.
