MUSKEGON, Mich. (WZZM) -- It's a sign summer is about to end on the lakeshore: The bright-colored Coast Guard helicopter is about to depart for the season.
The rescue chopper arrives every May and flies out of a hangar at the Muskegon County Airport.
The "helo crew" and staff who work out of the Muskegon Air Station are in the process of closing the station for the season.
The air station responded to a number of distressed boater calls, and participated in two major searches this year. One was for a missing boater who drowned in Lake Michigan in Ottawa County, the other was at Pere Marquette Beach, where a teenage girl drowned in July.
