BOSTON (DETROIT FREE PRESS) - It took a few innings, but the Detroit Tigers offense, sans Miguel Cabrera, finally broke through for a few runs.

That ended up being enough for Doug Fister and the Tigers' bullpen, which combined to shut out the Boston Red Sox 3-0 today at Fenway Park on Labor Day.

Fister threw seven shutout innings, giving up four hits and four walks while striking out four. His ERA drops to 3.66 on the year.

Andy Dirks opened the scoring in the seventh inning, hitting an RBI triple to score Victor Martinez. Then Dirks scored when Don Kelly grounded into a double play later in the inning.

Prince Fielder's sacrifice fly in the eighth to score Austin Jackson rounded out the scoring for Detroit.

John Lackey (8-12) took the loss after 7.1 innings with three earned runs on seven hits and a walk.
