GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- A high speed chase between police and a motorcycle ended in a crash and the suspect in the hospital.

It happened around 8:00 p.m. Tuesday night.

The driver of the motorcycle is 24-year-old Salkan Karic of Kentwood.

Karic first got away from a Michigan State Police Trooper on the East Beltline, South of Leonard.

Police say his speed was more than 100 miles per hour.

A Kent County Deputy later saw and followed Karic, who was still traveling at a high rate of speed.

He lost control around a sharp turn, then crashed on Forest Hill Avenue, near Engleside.

Karic was taken to Spectrum Health, and is in critical condition.

Police say alcohol is believed to be a factor.
