When is it?   The Second Ride United is on Friday, September 13th beginning at 8am

What is it?   Ride United is a Century (100 Mile) bike ride hosted by United Way to support programs that promote health. The bike ride is in the shape of a three leaf clover to tie into Michigan Irish Festival which begins later that evening in downtown Muskegon. One leaf is 50 miles, another is 35 miles and the third is 15 miles. Riders can choose to ride all three for the century ride or any portion of the ride.

Riders pay a registration fee of $75 that includes a rider jersey, food, water and snacks for the day. At registration they can connect with a firstgiving link to announce to their friends and colleagues that they are riding and to help support them by making an easy online pledge or small donation.

Where is it?   Ride United will kick-off from Rotary Park at Heritage Landing in downtown Muskegon. (The parking and access point is at the YMCA: 900 West Western, Muskegon)

Why do it?   People should join this annual event to support United Way for three reason:
1. to get involved in a fun way to raise funds for a great cause,
2. To improve their own health, and
3. To help us send a strong message to everyone in our area to STAY ACTIVE - STAY HEALTHY.

How did it start? Ride United debuted in Sept. 2009 when avid cyclist, Mike Demos was challendged to ride his bike to work, a 100 mile commute from his home to work. Mike accepted the challenge, stipulating that his DTE coworkers support him by pledging donations to United Way. From Mike's solo efforts in 2009, Ride United grew to include more cyclists each year to step forward and join their community and test their endurance by completing the 100-mile challenge.

What happens to the $$$'s raised? The money raised from the event will go to support the United Way of the riders choice to support programs that improve results in health.

Who is involved, how many? United Way of the Lakeshore is hosting the event with support from our sponsors, DTE, Meijer, Mercy Health, Nowak Machined Products and Betten Baker Auto. At this point over 45 riders are signed up with more coming in each day.

Can anyone still join in? Online registration is continuing through September 9th at www.ridemi.org. There will be limited capacity but we will be able to sign up people on the day of the ride on site.
