GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM)- United Way is celebrating the 18th Annual Day of Caring, a day that promotes strengthening the community through service projects.
More than 1,000 volunteers across West Michigan are working on a number of building, painting, and repair projects all in hopes of making the community a better place to live.
The Heart of West Michigan United Way organizes the projects every year. This year, the event corresponds with the National Day of Service and Remembrance.
In Grand Rapids, more than 100 volunteers focused on sprucing up city parks. 13 parks were cleaned of trash in the effort.
