Take Five Grandma and Mommy's Pumpkin Caramel Apple Pie - 9/19/2013

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Pumpkin Filling
1 ¼ cups canned pumpkin
1 cup half & half
½ cup sugar
2 eggs, slightly beaten
1 tablespoon flour
2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
¼ teaspoon cloves
½ teaspoon orange zest
¼ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon

Apple Filling
3 medium Michigan Cortland, Ida Red Apples, peeled, thinly sliced, diced
1/4 cup sugar
1 tablespoon flour
1 tablespoons butter, melted
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
1/8 teaspoon salt

Homemade Caramel Sauce - see recipe on page ??

Garnish - Optional
Real whipped cream,
Dried apples
Grated nutmeg

Pumpkin Filling
In medium mixing bowl, combine pumpkin filling ingredients until well mixed. Set aside.

Apple Filling
In a medium saucepan, cook all apple filling ingredients on medium heat until apples are almost cooked through. Add ½ cup of Homemade Caramel Sauce until melted. Remove from stove.

Pour apple filling into bottom of frozen pie crust. Cover with pumpkin filling.
Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes to 1 hour or middle of pie quivers. Garnish with real whipped cream, dried apples, caramel and dust with grated nutmeg.
